Interdisciplinair debat ' exploring donoranonymity'

Is donor anonymity out of date? Is there a right to identity? And what are the meanings of genetics?
These are just some of the questions that will be addressed during the roundtable “Exploring Donor Anonymity: An Interdisciplinary Conversation”. In the last decades, donor anonymity has gained critical attention in many European countries, including in Belgium. Partially in response to the activism of donor-conceived persons, a number of law proposals have been submitted since 2015 to partially or completely waive donor anonymity. Donor anonymity has also become a topic of debate in Belgian society at large, as evidenced by the many reports in the media.
This event of the Leuven Centre for Health Humanities (LCH²) aims to contribute to the debate by highlighting and connecting recent research. Scholars from various disciplines – history, psychology, law, bioethics, feminist and adoption studies – will share their insights and engage in conversation with each other and with the audience.

This event takes place on Thursday 16 March 2023, from 4pm to 6pm (Central European Time), followed by a free reception. The location is the beautiful aula Emma Vorlat in the city centre of Leuven (Leercentrum Agora, Edward Van Evenstraat 4, 3000 Leuven). If you come by car, there is public parking in Q-Park Leuven Heilig Hart, Naamsestraat 102, 3000 Leuven. It’s a 7 minute walk to Aula Vorlat.

This is a hybrid event. Our speakers will be with us, on campus, and we hope many of you will join us there. However, it is also possible to attend online, via Zoom. The event and the reception are free for all, but we kindly ask you to register here.
